NCFG says…

Newbury Community Football Group (NCFG) is delighted to support the reopening of the Faraday Road Football on the 19th November 2023.
NCFG has been campaigning to save the local football ground for over 7 years,
since the previous Conservative-led administration decided to evict Newbury FC
from the ground in June 2018 and left the site dormant and unused.
NCFG led a powerful campaign to protect this valuable local sports asset,
challenging West Berkshire Council on their plans to build flats on the football
ground and received huge local support including a petition of over 7,000
signatures, one of the biggest ever seen in West Berks.
There were many twists and turns along the way over the last 7 years and at the
local elections in May, with the Lib Dems, Greens and Labour all making manifesto
promises to save Faraday Road, the decision was ultimately (and rightly) that of
the residents of West Berks who voted for change.
The re-opening event takes place at 11.30am on Sunday 19th November, with NCFG
organising the footballing events of the day. The event will include the league
fixture for Under 8 teams of AFC Newbury and CSA 07 and a penalty shoot-out for
all, hosted by Newbury FC and team members of Newbury Women FC will be there
too, before they head off for their match.
Lee McDougall from NCFG said “this is a fantastic achievement and I thank all of
the NCFG members and supporters who have committed so much time to this
campaign over many years to protect this football ground. But this is just the
start and we look forward to working with West Berkshire Council to bring a full
football stadium back to Faraday Road”
